Evelin Lanthaler's special victory in Jaufental

The final Sunday was all about sporting anniversaries: In the men's single-seater, Thomas Kammerlander celebrated the 25th World Cup victory of his career, and it was an unexpected victory. After the first run, “Kammi” was in fourth place, 0,33 seconds behind the leader from South Tyrol, Alex Gruber. Kammerlander got the second run perfect and made up place after place in 1.43,27:0,04 minutes. Gruber also had to admit defeat by XNUMX seconds at the finish, third place went to the junior world champion Fabian Brunner, also from South Tyrol.

In the overall standings, the three-way battle between Michael Scheikl (AUT), Gruber and Kammerlander has broken out: Scheikl and Gruber are tied in the lead after four of seven races with 330 points each, Kammerlander follows with 325 points.

The race in the women's single-seater developed into a very tight box: the half-time leader Evelin Lanthaler was not able to produce her usual performance in the second run, her lead of 0,31 seconds steadily melted away and in the end the world champion saved 0,02 seconds over her finish line. With a time of 1.44,83:32 minutes, the 40-year-old from the Passeier Valley celebrated her 0,48th World Cup victory, ahead of the two Vinschgers women Greta Pinggera and Nadine Staffler (+XNUMX seconds).

“Today it was really extremely close, I think I wasn't relaxed enough in the second run. “I will now enjoy the cake for my 40th victory with my teammates and the coaching staff,” said Lanthaler happily. With the maximum of 400 points, Lanthaler confidently leads the overall ranking, ahead of Pinggera (286 points) and Tina Unterberger (AUT/275).

Organizers draw positive conclusions There were also happy faces among the organizers from ASV Jaufental around OK boss Walter Volgger: “The night race on Saturday evening was a crowd puller, the many spectators created a great atmosphere. We have also seen from a sporting perspective that the Tonnerboden track is always good for a hundredth thriller.” Volgger would also like to thank the FIL toboggan association for their trust and the many volunteers who ensured that the double World Cup ran smoothly.
