Natural track tobogganing: Patrick Pigneter's winning streak is broken

In an exciting race in which five athletes were ranked within just 14 hundredths of a second after the first run, it was the Austrian Thomas Kammerlander who managed to break Patrick Pigneter's winning streak, which had lasted almost two years.

“I noticed in training that I was fast here, but I didn’t expect that I would end up in first place. “Everyone had to attack and everyone knew that they could win the race or come fifth,” said Kammerlander, who impressed with a fourth place in the first race of the season in Laas. “I completely changed the material two days before the race in Laas, it was a stroke of luck that it worked like that.”

Second-placed Patrick Pigneter in the single-seater is still waiting for a lucky break in material: “I know that I can be much faster. I didn't set the material optimally in Lasa and not here either. I don't know exactly what's missing, you just have to change the right things." Third place was shared by Hannes Clara from Val Badia and Michael Scheikl from Austria.

Lavrentjeva's series holds up - despite the flu

In the women's race, Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (Russia) once again came out on top, even though she doesn't feel completely comfortable on the “Bergkristall route” in two respects: “The route with the curve at the beginning and the straight after is always a bit difficult for me . I'm also a bit sick.” It was still enough to win, but local hero Evelin Lanthaler came within 14 hundredths of a second after even setting the fastest time in the second run: “I made a few mistakes, but the gap to Kathi has become smaller. I couldn’t try hard enough in training because I had to qualify, and I didn’t think it would go so well in the race.”

Melanie Schwarz, who secured a podium place in the World Cup for the second time in her career with third place, was also overjoyed: “It was a very intense weekend for me, I was really nervous and I fought until the end. And now I’m looking forward to Umhausen, where I won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships.”

Florian Clara prevailed in the men's Nations Cup and relegated Anton Blasbichler and Gernot Schwab to second and third place. In the team competition there was a victory for Italy with Evelin Lanthaler, Hannes Clara and Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara. Austria took second place, with both Thomas Kammerlander and Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf achieving best running times. Team Russia (Ekatharina Lavrentjeva, Stanislav Kovshik, Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev) secured third place ahead of Germany and Poland.
