Natural track sledders Pigneter and Lavrentjeva win in Casies

Patrick Pigneter was a consistent force in Gsies and confidently celebrated his third win of the season. “It was very difficult not to make any mistakes here, but I managed it well. I had a lead from the first run, but then approached the second one rather cautiously because there is a slight risk of falling here. That's why I braked more at the top and still achieved the best time. I'm very satisfied." Thomas Kammerlander from Austria came in second and, along with Pigneter, was the only athlete to maintain his position from the first run. Third-placed Robert Batkowski was satisfied with the results, but not with the times. “The vote isn’t really right yet. The results are good, but the rest can still be improved,” announces the Tyrolean, who now occupies second place in the overall World Cup. Rudi Resch from Tiers narrowly missed out on a podium place, catapulting himself from ninth to fourth place with a brilliant second run.

With an overall time that would have seen her finish seventh in the men's competition, Ekatharina Lavrentjeva outclassed the competition in the women's race. “I don’t know what I did in the second run,” laughed the Russian and added: “I didn’t make any mistakes today. I don't really care whether the track is long, short, fast or flat, I love all tracks." Her opponents had already stopped laughing given the running times. “There was nothing that could be done against Ekatharina today, you have to acknowledge that,” said second-placed Feldthurnser Renate Gietl, paying respect to her eternal rival. “I tried everything again in the second run and risked from top to bottom, but there was nothing that could be done.” Junior Evelin Lanthaler took third place with two consistent runs. “I didn't drive without mistakes, but on such a long route you can make up for mistakes and make up time. At the finish you notice that the route is extremely long here, you have to be fully concentrated from top to bottom, but I trained well and am getting in better shape,” said the 19-year-old from the Passeier Valley
