Pigneter-Clara win the doubles World Cup

Pigneter/Clara were eight hundredths of a second behind Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf (Austria), who celebrated their first win of the season at the end. The Russians Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov took second place.

“We are very happy, even with third place. Today we made a big mistake that cost us the win. The Schopf were simply better, congratulations to them on the win. We performed very well throughout the season. It was important to us to get the overall World Cup back – and we succeeded,” said Patrick Pigneter at the finish. His doubles partner Florian Clara said: “We changed a lot of the material and tinkered around a lot. Now we have the right settings again.”

The second South Tyrolean doubles with Hannes Clara/Stefan Gruber did not start. Gruber was injured in the first race in Vatra Dornei and left Romania at the beginning of the week.

Here the “Azzurri” narrowly beat Russia and Austria. “This victory is of course the perfect end to a season that didn’t necessarily go as planned for me personally. I had a hangup that lasted quite a long time. I hope that the army sports group will give me the opportunity to be there as an athlete next year too,” said the “eternal” Toni Blasbichler, who took part alongside Pigneter/Clara and Evelin Lanthaler.
