Pigneter celebrates home win in Deutschnofen

After his fourth victory in the fourth race and with two competitions to go, Patrick Pigneter can hardly be pushed out of his place in the sun - similar to Ekatharina Lavrentjeva, who leads the overall ranking among women undefeated.

Pigneter secured the home race in Deutschnofen with a time of 1:48.13. He was therefore 36 hundredths faster than his South Tyrolean teammate Hannes Clara, who took second place with a very good ride and thus pushed the Austrian Michael Scheikl into third place.

“Now I'm trying to win all six races, let's see if that's possible. The appeal of winning is always the same, you have to give everything to be at the top,” said Pigneter, whose seventh victory in the overall World Cup can only be taken away mathematically. His toughest competitor comes from his own ranks: Hannes Clara celebrated his third second place in a row and is in top form. His goal is clearly defined: “Beat Patrick once,” but he adds: “I am completely satisfied with my performance here. Especially after my fall in training on Friday, second place is confirmation that the form is right. I just don’t have enough time to train because of my job.”

For the women, the picture was now familiar: Renate Gietl fought her teeth against Lavrentjeva in vain and ultimately took second place, 1.31 seconds behind. Young Evelin Lanthaler, a South Tyrolean, also climbed to third place.

“Your toboggan is simply different than ours. All we can do is try and test. Ekatharina is currently unattainable, so I am happy with my performance,” said Gietl after her fourth second place in a row

In the overall women's ranking, the Russian is in first place with a lead of 70 points, followed by Melanie Schwarz. Among the men, Pigneter is in first place with 400 points, ahead of his teammates Hannes Clara (255) and Alex Gruber (247)

Pigneter celebrates home win in Deutschnofen

The big favorites to win the overall World Cup, Patrick Pigneter and Ekatharina Lavrentjeva, did not disappoint expectations on the track in Deutschnofen: the Völser and the experienced Russian secured victory.
