Pigneter, Pinggera and Co. put on the big show in Železniki

One day after his victory in the doubles, Pigneter also did everything right in the singles and prevailed ahead of the Austrian Thomas Kammerlander (+0.44 seconds) and the Russian Juri Talikh (+0.60). With his triumph, the Völser made up important ground in the overall standings - two races before the end of the season, he is now only ten points behind Kammerlander in second place. In today's race, Florian Clara came fifth and Alex Gruber rounded off the South Tyrolean result with seventh place.

“I was a bit under tension today because Thomas put a lot of pressure on me,” Pigneter commented on his race. “I wasn't the best in training, but I know that I can play to my strengths in the races. Sure, there are always a few little things that could be done better, but all in all I put in two solid runs and am more than satisfied.”

South Tyrol's women play cat and mouse with the competition Things went even better for the local sledders in the women's competition than for the men: Here Greta Pinggera and Evelin Lanthaler were in a league of their own and took the first two places with a big lead over the rest of the field. At the finish, Pinggera was 34 hundredths ahead of her teammate Lanthaler. Sara Bachmann, who finished third to complete the South Tyrolean triple success, lost almost two and a half seconds to the day's winner Pinggera. In the overall ranking, Lanthaler remains in first place with 455 points - Pinggera is in second place with 410 points.

“Greta was simply too strong this weekend,” said Lanthaler, paying respect to her compatriot. “I knew that I had to attack fully and actually didn't make any big mistakes in the first or second run. However, this time it wasn't enough." Pinggera herself was pleased with her own performance: "I actually came here without any specific expectations, but I wanted to attack and win. Especially because things haven't been ideal for me so far this season. It was my first time on this track, which is difficult and demanding. But the material was right and I found my way around here easily - even if my runs weren't perfect."

Sara Bachmann, who made it onto the podium for the first time this season, was also happy with the outcome of the race: “I barely survived the qualification and didn't expect to end up in third place here. So of course I’m very happy.”

South Tyrol's tobogganers were also in a class of their own in the team competition: the team around Patrick/Pigneter/Florian Clara, Greta Pinggera and Alex Gruber won ahead of the teams from Austria and Russia.

At the World Cup stage for natural track luge in Železniki, Slovenia, South Tyrol's athletes really came into their own: While Patrick Pigneter won the men's race, Greta Pinggera was also unbeatable in the women's field. With her victory, Pinggera led a South Tyrolean triple success.
