Pigneter/Clara strike back: Triumph at the World Cup in Slovenia

A week after the somewhat disappointing sixth place in Moscow, Pigneter/Clara got back on track in Slovenia and celebrated their second win of the season. The two South Tyroleans set the best running times twice and came out on top in 2:01.90 minutes, clearly ahead of the Russians Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev (2:03.95) and the Austrians Andreas and Christian Schopf (2:04.00). Thanks to their success in Slovenia, Pigneter/Clara are in first place in the overall World Cup with a 15-point lead.

“We tried a lot in Moscow, but none of it really worked. But now a certain lightness returned; today we always had the toboggan under control. It’s a technically demanding track and that suits us,” Pigneter analyzed after the race. His partner Clara added: “Everything went right from the start, we found the right material straight away and were able to constantly improve. When it works, it works.”

The second Italian team, consisting of Armin Folie and Simone Gaio, finished the competition in eighth place, just over five seconds behind.

For the men, Patrick Pigneter set the fastest time of 57.36 seconds. He was twelve and 25 hundredths of a second faster than the current World Cup leader Thomas Kammerlander (Austria) and Juri Talikh (Russia).

The women's qualification was completely dominated by the Italian lugers: Greta Pinggera took first place with a time of 58.29 seconds, her teammate came second in 58.75 seconds. Another local athlete, Sara Bachmann, came in third place. You are one and a half seconds behind Pinggera.

In the men's Nations Cup, South Tyrolean Stefan Federer won ahead of the two Russians Aleksey Martyanov and Jakov Bukin.
