Pigneter/Clara back on the road to victory

“Don’t make any mistakes” was the two South Tyroleans’ recipe for the second run in Kindberg in order to make the jump from second to first place. “Last year we were so superior that we were able to win even with a faulty run. That’s no longer possible this year, everyone has become faster and the field is tighter,” said Pigneter. “We also revised the material last week and will continue to refine it with a view to the World Cup next week.”

The calculation worked: Pignater/Clara won with 15 hundredths of an advantage over the Russians Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev, who achieved the best running time in the second round but were no longer able to intercept the South Tyroleans. Porshnev/Lazarev hold the sole record of 24 second places in the World Cup. The half-time leaders Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf had to be content with third place. The brothers were on course for victory until the last corner, but then made a driving mistake.

Everything remains open in the World Cup: Pigneter/Clara and Porschnev/Lazarev are now tied in the lead, closely followed by Schopf/Schopf. After the World Championships in Umhausen and the European Junior Championships in Laas, the Würz Energy World Cup will continue in Unterammergau on the weekend of February 11th to 13th.

Pigneter/Clara back on the road to victory

Patrick Pigneter from Völs and Florian Clara from Val Badia won the doubles competition in Kindberg in Austria and celebrated their 17th World Cup victory. Now they are scratching the all-time record of 18 World Cup victories, which is currently held by the Austrians Reinhard Beer/Herbert Kögl.
