Daniel Gruber was the big dominator in the Junior World Cup and went into the title fights on the “Tonnerboden track” at the Wipptaler Toboggan Center in Jaufental as the gold favorite. In the first two runs, the 19-year-old led by 0,23 seconds over Fabian Brunner, who set a big exclamation mark with a new track record (51,75 seconds) in the second run. In the decisive third run, Brunner set the fastest time again, while Gruber almost crashed shortly before the finish. Despite this moment of shock, it was enough to win the gold medal; he crossed the finish line in 2.35,75:0,87 minutes, exactly as fast as Brunner. The bronze medal went to another Azzurro, Alex Oberhofer (+XNUMX seconds), meaning the hosts celebrated a triple victory.

“It almost sounds cheesy, but last night in the hotel we jokingly said it would be cool if we won the gold medal at the same time,” said Fabian Brunner after the award ceremony. “It's so cool. Winning the World Championship title in the junior class last year – together with my buddy – that’s really awesome,” said Gruber happily.

The medal decision was also extremely exciting in the women's single-seater. After the first two runs, Katharina Hofer from Passiria was comfortably in the lead with a lead of 0,67 seconds. In the final, however, the Austrian Riccarda Ruetz turned on the turbo and put a lot of pressure on Hofer with a new track record (53,00 seconds) and a total time of 2.39,76:0,15 minutes. In the decision, she was unable to build on her performance from the first two runs - in the end she had to settle for the silver medal, 1,90 seconds behind Ruetz. Bronze went to Sarah Schiller (GER/+XNUMX sec.).

“The third run was pretty perfect – in contrast to the first run. I had fallen behind quite a bit. It was a feat of strength, which makes this gold medal shine all the more beautifully,” beamed Ruetz at the finish, while Hofer was disappointed in his face: “That’s bitter. Of course I’m happy about the silver medal, but before the final I was probably too confident and gave up the world title.”

Satisfied faces also appeared on the organizing committee around OK boss Walter Volgger: “It was three wonderful World Cup days here in Jaufental. My team did a great job.” The president of ASV Jaufental, Manfred Siller, is happy about the new junior world champions: “In the three races we had winners from three different countries. Slovenia, Austria and Italy. This breadth is good for the sport, I hope that even more young athletes will take up tobogganing.”
