Omar knows what's important

"That's the way it is. I know what I need to perform. As you get older, your liveliness decreases, but you know situations and processes well enough,” says the likeable Visintin.

After completing last season, he took a break in April. “After that I did a lot of strength training and also tried boxing as a training option. “Everything went smoothly in the summer and fall, and unlike other years, my back didn’t bother me,” says Visintin, looking back on the good preparation.

The first units took place on snow at the Stelvio Pass. “It went well straight away, everything felt good. My material is the same as last year, so I can cope with it very well,” reports the 32-year-old. At least at the beginning of the season he is holding the South Tyrolean flag high alone. “Emanuel can’t push me now. He does a lot of rehab training and we hear from each other again and again. “Hopefully he gets back to good fitness,” Visintin also thinks of his teammate. Departure for China On November 20th, Visintin left for China. The first World Cup race of the season in Secret Garden on November 28th (qualification 2 days earlier) is also the Olympic dress rehearsal. “I’m looking forward to this competition. We will try to gain as much insight as possible. Because I say one thing openly. The Olympics clearly have priority, a medal in Beijing would be the biggest thing.”

There are plenty of World Cup competitions in the 2021/22 season. “I’m especially looking forward to the competitions in Italy. There are three stations planned: Cervinia, Valmalenco and Cortina,” says Visintin. He doesn't have the ticket for the Winter Games in China in his hand yet, but he almost has it. “At the end there will be a coaching decision. But for me it looks good to be able to compete in the third Winter Games after Sochi and Pyeongchang,” said the 32-year-old.

Omar can switch off best when he rests or devotes time to his dog Baku: “I've had him since March. It's really good for you, but it takes a lot of work." The rising Corona numbers are also giving him a headache, but when it comes to the races, Visintin remains cool: “In principle, I don’t care whether there are fans there or not. I'm there to race. Of course an audience would be better, but sport takes priority.”
