Visintin third in the Sierra Nevada: “Wants to be number one”

Visintin, who celebrated his first World Cup victory on the opening stage in Montafon, was happy about his second podium finish in the World Cup on Thursday. The man from Algunder marched to the final, where he finally had to compete against the Canadian Robert Fagan, the Spaniard Lucas Eguibar, the French Pierre Vaultier and the two Austrians Markus Schairer and Alessandro Hämmerle. All he had to do was give way to Vaultier and Schairer.

Unlike the other World Cup stages, the boardercrossers did not have to fight their way through qualification on Thursday. Due to the snow conditions that led to the cancellation of the parallel giant slalom the day before, the men immediately began the round of 16. While Visintin made it to the final, Emanuel Perathoner failed in the first round.

In the women's category, Canadian Dominique Maltais won ahead of Frenchwoman Nelly Moenne Loccoz and her compatriot Maelle Ricker. Meanwhile, the young Michela Moioli from Italy narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.

With third place at the World Cup final in the Sierra Nevada, Omar Visintin was also able to move up two places in the overall ranking. The 23-year-old South Tyrolean finished his successful season in third place behind the Australian Alex Pullin and the Austrian Markus Schairer.

“I started very well at the start in Montafon, then my season leveled off a bit. I came to the Sierra Nevada with a clear head and no pressure and things went well. The three of us fought for third place in the overall standings. Fortunately, both of my opponents were eliminated before the final. That made it easier for me. Third place overall is a basis for the coming seasons, I want to be number one in boardercross,” said the 23-year-old Algunder.

The reigning world champion from Australia Alex Pullin was crowned overall World Cup winner with one lap to go. Perathoner ended up in 17th place.
