Winter sports association presents competition calendar

A total of 250 winter sports events are held in South Tyrol from the end of November to spring. “The clubs work excellently, they organize competitions every year that are of a very high level,” praised Hermann Ambach, the President of the South Tyrolean State Winter Sports Association, who was among the guests of honor State Sports Councilor Martha Stocker, the national FISI President Flavio Roda and CONI boss Heinz Gutweniger was able to welcome us.

Carezza and Innichen start things off The World Cup races begin in South Tyrol with the snowboarders, who are coming to Carezza for the fourth year in a row. On Saturday, December 13th, a parallel giant slalom will take place on the Pra-Di-Tori piste on the Karerpass. The slopes of Haunold in San Candido will be the venue for the FIS Ski Cross World Cup races for the 19th time in a row from December 21th to 6st.

The classics in Val Gardena and Alta Badia In Alpine skiing, the classic on the Saslong in Val Gardena is on the program in three weeks. The World Cup circus is coming to the Ladin Valley on December 19th (Super-G) and 20th (Downhill). Tour de Ski for the sixth time in a row in Toblach After the turn of the year, the elite in international cross-country skiing will come back to Hochpustertal or Toblach. As part of the Tour de Ski, the most important stage race in cross-country skiing, the entourage will stop off on the cross-country ski trails around the Nordic Arena on January 7th and 8th, 2015. On Wednesday, January 7th, the men's 10 km race and the women's 5 km race will be held in classic technique. One day later, on January 8th, the pursuit competitions with the 35 kilometer long distance race from Cortina to Dobbiaco are on the program.

Antholz, the biathlon mecca The absolute winter sports highlight is still the biathlon races in Antholz. In the third week of January (January 21st to 25th), the best ski hunters in the world will delight the 65.000 fans in the South Tyrol Arena. Top-class sport paired with a top entertainment program make Antholz and South Tyrol the mecca of biathlon for a week. The South Tyrolean World Cup competitions will conclude on February 28, 2015 with ski mountaineering in Martell.

European Cup races begin on December 13th in Val Badia Several European Cup races are also on the program again this year. The European Ski Cup is coming to St. Vigil in Enneberg (December 13th), Obereggen (December 17th) and San Candido (February 4th and 5th, 2015). In biathlon, an IBU race will take place in Ridnaun (December 12th-14th), in ski cross there will be a European Cup race at Watles (February 21st and 22nd, 2015) and in snowboard in Ratschings (March 21st-23rd, 2015). . The natural track tobogganists are organizing a stage of the newly introduced Junior World Cup in Latzfons (January 31 and February 1, 2015). The European Series of ski mountaineers stops off in Ahrntal (January 11, 2015).

Nationwide racing series In most sports there are nationwide racing series again this year. These racing series are the heart of the state winter sports association. Almost all local world-class athletes started their careers here. The most important series in alpine skiing is the Marlene Cup, which begins on December 6th in Sulden. The Alpines also compete in the Raiffeisen Grand Prix, in the VSS series and in the Raiffesien Südtirol Master Cup. The Volksbank Trophy for cross-country skiers starts in Toblach on December 7th and is being held for the 36th time this year. Volksbank also supports the snowboarder racing series, while Raiffeisen supports the youth natural track toboggan series.

State association honors retired athletes and officials Hermann Ambach also thanked the energy company SEL, which has sponsored not only all state squads but also the SEL Cup for many years. As part of the calendar presentation, 13 South Tyrolean world-class athletes who ended their careers this year were also honored in Kaltern: the artificial track luge athletes Armin Zöggeler, Sandra Gasparini, Hans Peter Fiwickeler and Patrick Schwienbacher, the alpine skiers Denise Karbon and Hagen Patscheider, the biathletes Michela Ponza and Markus Windisch, the snowboarders Meinhard Erlacher and Andrea Tribus, the natural track tobogganist Melanie Schwarz, the cross-country skier Thomas Moriggl and the ski jumper Lisa Demetz. There was also an award for the former board members of the national FISI Rainer Senoner and Helmuth Schmalzl as well as the South Tyrolean regional association Silvano Maranelli and Helmuth Schramm.

Winter sports association presents competition calendar

The South Tyrol winter sports association presented the 2013/14 competition calendar in the Puntay cellar of the Erste&Neue winery in Kaltern. The nine World Cup events that will take place in South Tyrol in the coming months were particularly in the spotlight.
