Meran is once again dominated by canoeing

On the first day of competition there are separate rankings for juniors (U18) and seniors (general class) as well as the U23 Italian Championship and the second qualification for the U18 World Cup in July in Bratislava and the U18 European Championship in August in Hohenlimburg. Two races will take place between 10 a.m. and 16 p.m. The first round begins on Saturday in the five boat classes at 10 a.m., the second round at 14 p.m. A second international race for a standard class with qualification, semi-finals and final will take place on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. 110 canoeists from six countries, including seven SCM paddlers, are registered.

Paddling takes place on a technically demanding course between the Gilfklamm and the Steinernem Steg. 18 to 20 gates, six of them upwards, must be paddled through as quickly as possible in the boat classes of kayak singles and canoe singles for women and men as well as canoe doubles for men. According to OC boss Walter Weger, the water level is almost ideal for the canoe slalom.

Local heroes in focus

At the international canoe slalom, the successful canoeists from SC Meran will also be in action in the supreme discipline, the kayak single sculls. Jakob Weger, Michael Luther, Martin Unterthurner, Valentin Luther, Jakob Luther, Markus Hübner and Jonas Walter as well as Matthias Weger, who competes for Naturfreunde Innsbruck, want to give their best in their home races. Last year, Matthias Weger (21) won both international races on the Passer in the kayak single sculls. This time Matthias Weger, who is once again competing on the Passer for the Austrian Canoe Association, faces great competition from his younger brother Jakob (19), who is the top favorite in the U23 Italian Kayak Championships and wants to successfully defend his U23 Italian Championship title . Jakob and Matthias Weger are also testing on the Passer for their participation in the European Canoe Slalom Championships in the general class from June 1st to 4th in Tacen (Slovenia).

Meran is once again dominated by canoeing

At the weekend the canoeists are in charge again in Meran. The canoe slalom in the Passerstadt is celebrating its 62nd edition. Two international races are on the program in the Gilf natural arena on Saturday and Sunday.
