These South Tyroleans are fighting for medals at the World Cycling Championships

Train Matteo Bianchi 21 years old from Laives competitions: Team sprint and 1km time trial

The Leifer native is a great hope in track cycling and has just won 23 titles at the U3 European Championships. It's a different league now, of course, but Bianchi doesn't need to hide. He will start in the team sprint and the 1km time trial, in which he has a good chance of qualifying for the final. For him, the World Cup starts on Thursday with qualification in the team sprint. The time trial won't take place until next week with qualification and final on Tuesday.

Mattia Predomo 18 years old from Bolzano competitions: Sprint and team sprint

He is considered the upcoming super sprinter on the track. The fact that he can take part in the elite World Cup at the age of 18 (he will be 19 on the last day of the World Cup) says everything about his enormous potential. He won two titles at the U23 European Championships, but he will also be up against completely different calibers in Glasgow. Together with Bianchi he will compete in the team sprint qualification on Thursday. On Saturday the qualification in the sprint is on the agenda and – if he survives – also the first two knockout rounds.

Mountain bike – cross country Elian Paccagnella 17 years old from Bolzano competitions: Junior cross country race and possibly team relay

The Bolzano native, who will turn 7 during this World Cup on August 18th, is Italy's best junior in the Olympic discipline of cross country. His chances in the individual junior race are difficult to assess, but in the team relay he definitely has a chance of winning a medal with Italy. This team relay is on the program next Wednesday.

Greta Seiwald 26 years old from Pichl-Gsies competitions: Short track and cross country

The woman from Casies hasn't had her best season so far and even had to worry about taking part in the World Championships after she was sixth in the World Championships in the short track a year ago. Because her performance was constantly going downhill, she changed coaches in the middle of the season, which paid off. Most recently she won silver in cross country at the Italian Championships. The race in their specialty discipline, Short Track, will take place next Thursday.

Mountain bike – marathon Sandra Mairhofer 31 years old from Taisten, living in Gais Competition: Marathon

This World Cup was always a big goal for the season for the multi-talented athlete. Less than a week ago she became Italian marathon champion. And she was also really strong in the marathons. It is questionable whether the route in Scotland suits her. There aren't the long climbs that she loves so much, but rather lots of short, steep climbs. She can still be counted among the extended circle of favorites.

Fabian Rabensteiner 32 years old from Villandro Competition: Marathon

Rabensteiner will be 33 years old on the exact day of the World Cup race and would of course like to present himself with a medal. There is a chance for this. Rabensteiner is currently one of the world's best marathon specialists, was European champion last year and runner-up at the European Championships this year. It is also a track where exactly the qualities that he brings are required.

Mountain bike – downhill Veronika Widman 30 years old from Tramin Competition: Downhill

She has just become Italian champion for the 5th time, and her seasonal performances in the World Cup are also impressive. Their stated goal is to reach the final of the top ten. She has always managed that in the World Cup this year. She knows the track because it is also used in the World Cup, and she also enjoys driving there.

Street Alessia Vigilia 23 years old from Bolzano Competition: Individual time trial, mixed team

She is a specialist in individual time trials and won bronze in this discipline at the Italian Championships. A year ago she took 14th place at the European Championships in Munich.
