The coronation in the derby: Brixen is state league champion!

SSV Brixen impressively dominated this year's state league championship. The crowning moment came on Sunday: with a derby victory, the Eisacktalers propelled themselves back into the top league.

May 14, 2023 was a black day in the club's history of SSV Brixen. On that Sunday a year ago, the proud club from the cathedral city was relegated from the Oberliga to the Landesliga for the first time in 23 (!) years. But the way the people of Brixen fought back there is simply impressive. After an outstanding season, Patrizio Morini's team were crowned champions on Sunday - with five games to go. SSV Brixen is back in the league after just one year!

The title for the Eisacktaler could not have been sealed more beautifully. In the derby against city rivals Milland, Brixen won 2-1 and was then allowed to pop the champagne corks. The decisive goal was scored by Luca Consalvo, who represents Brixen's upswing like no other. In the last league season, the exceptional striker only scored four goals, which is why some people have already written him off. But this year Consalvo is really blossoming again and now has 18 goals.

On the hunt for the FC Südtirol record

Patrizio Morini can also be credited with a large share of the success. He has once again fully lived up to his reputation as a successful trainer. When Brixen was last promoted from the regional league to the upper league (1999/2000), the South Tyrolean coaching icon was also on the bench.

Brixen truly deserves the championship title. In the first half of the season, their pursuer Bruneck was able to keep up to some extent, but in the second half of the season the Brixen Ferrari raced ahead of everyone and everything. The Eisacktaler are still unbeaten after 25 games and can also equal FC Südtirol's all-time record: in 1995/96, the current Serie B club ended the season without defeat and with a record number of points of 82 points.

Pure excitement in the relegation battle

The promotion race in the national league has been decided. Now the relegation battle is becoming twice as interesting - also because St. Martin Moos reported back on Sunday. For the first time in six months (!), i.e. since October 21st, the Mortiners were able to celebrate a victory again. And of all things against the top team Latsch: the Passeirians won 4-2 against the Vinschgers and can suddenly dream of staying in the league again. This is only four points away.

Even bottom selection Ridnaun Valley didn't give up. The Wipptalers sent an impressive sign of life with a 6-1 victory over Kiens. For them, however, the saving bank is seven points away.
