Schenna’s new path: “Have complete trust”

With five match days to go, the situation in the regional league's relegation battle is coming to a head. Also right in the middle is FC Schenna, which has taken a new path.

Normally the relegation battle is for experienced firefighters. At Schenna, however, a young man from our own ranks is supposed to put out the fire. Veit Gögele (born 1996) took over the coaching position from Alex Mayr a week ago: “We sat down as a board and came to the decision that the team needed a change. Veit has our complete trust, knows the players and the environment,” said Schenna’s sporting director Markus Kuppelwieser in the SportNews-Conversation.

Gögele himself was a player at Schenna for years: “He has the UEFA B license and has been training various youth teams in Schenna for years. He has our complete trust. If everything goes well, it would also be our wish to continue with Veit.” However, the debut of the new trainer went wrong. On Sunday Schenna lost 0:4 in Salurn.

Veit Gögele is the youngest coach in the regional league.

“A 6-point game awaits us on Saturday against Ridnauntal. Everything has come together lately. “We currently lack stability, especially defensively,” explained Kuppelwieser. On the offensive, Jakob Gögele is the sole entertainer with 14 goals. Schenna brought back two top-class attackers from the league in the winter of Thomas Mair and Tobias Pföstl.
“From the outside, many people expected that the new winter additions would mean we would no longer have anything to do with relegation.” Schenna's sporting director Markus Kuppelwieser

“Many people from the outside expected that this would mean we would no longer have anything to do with relegation. But our returnees also feel a certain amount of pressure. In addition, Tobi (Pföstl; editor's note) often struggles with injuries. We just have to find the right balance now,” explained Schenna’s sporting director. If the Burggräflers succeed in this, they should ultimately secure relegation. Because one thing is certain: on paper, this storm series is more than just suitable for the national league.
