Will Florian Wirtz stay in Leverkusen or not?

Leverkusen's super talent Florian Wirtz is reportedly being courted by some top clubs. Now his father speaks plainly about his son's future.

The national soccer player Florian Wirtz, who is the focus of major clubs, will probably stay at Bayer Leverkusen for the time being and not move early. “At the moment everything is geared towards Florian playing in Leverkusen again next season,” said his father Hans-Joachim Wirtz, who represents his son and is leading the contract negotiations, on Sky. Accordingly, a change is only conceivable from 2025.

FC Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester United and other top European clubs are said to be interested in the 20-year-old exceptional talent. His contract with the Bundesliga leaders runs until the summer of 2027. In January 2020, Wirtz moved from 1. FC Köln's youth team to the factory club. So far this season, Wirtz has been involved in 19 goals in 16 competitive games – six goals and ten assists. Not only is he considered a pivotal point for Bayer coach Xabi Alonso, national coach Julian Nagelsmann also has high hopes for the offensive player with a view to the home World Cup next year.

Wirtz himself last said in November that he would stay regardless of coach Xabi Alonso. “I would like him to stay in Leverkusen for a long time. But in the end everyone has to go their own way and at some point I have to decide where I want to play best. The fact is: I’m very happy in the club right now,” he told the Germany editorial network.
