Defending champion has to give up – Homburg surprises

Defending champions RB Leipzig were eliminated from the DFB Cup in the second round.

The cup winners of the last two years suffered a 0-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday and thus experienced their first major disappointment of the current season. Vaclav Cerny (14th) scored the winning goal for Lower Saxony. Leipzig played outnumbered from the 55th minute onwards because Yussuf Poulsen had seen a yellow-red card, and suffered another DFB Cup defeat after 13 wins in a row.

Meanwhile, Union Berlin suffered its 11th competitive defeat in a row. The capital club lost 45-0 at VfB Stuttgart with a goal from Deniz Undav (1th). Coach Urs Fischer lost his nerve in the finish and was presented with a red card at the end of the game. St. Pauli also made it into the next round. The Kiez-Kickers beat Schalke 2-1 after extra time.
