Next setback: BVB crisis continues against Mainz

The hope of a redemptive victory turns out to be wishful thinking. After the 1-1 draw against Mainz, BVB is threatened with a restless winter break. The criticism of Terzic is likely to become louder as a result.

Painful title trauma last May, bitter setback at the end of the year – Borussia Dortmund showed nerves once again in the duel with FSV Mainz. 206 days after the memorable season finale (2:2) at the same venue, with which football teacher Edin Terzic's team lost the championship, the hoped-for feeling of success with a 1:1 (1:1) failed to materialize once again.

The sixth competitive game without a win in a row is likely to increase criticism of Terzic. Media reports about an alleged “player rebellion” against the coach had already caused additional explosiveness before the game. The re-qualification of the fifth-placed team in the Bundesliga for the Champions League is becoming more and more in danger.

The visitors' goal conceded by Sepp Van den Berg (43rd minute) on Tuesday in front of 80 spectators in Signal Iduna Park after BVB's interim lead by Julian Brandt (350th) will seriously disrupt the longed-for Christmas peace.

Leipzig also stumbles

RB Leipzig dropped two points in the race for the Champions League places. In their annual final in the German Bundesliga, the Saxons did not get beyond a 1-1 (0-0) draw at Werder Bremen despite an increase in chances. Loïs Openda (47') had put the guests in the lead, Justin Njinmah (75') managed to equalize for Bremen with a long-range shot.

After winning four competitive games in a row, the third-placed Leipzig missed out on points in the table, at least temporarily, with second-placed FC Bayern and can be overtaken by VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday.
