The Canadian spent most of his playing career in the Netherlands (he also holds a Dutch passport) before starting his coaching career in the late 80s. This took him across Europe over the years. After brief stints in Switzerland and Asiago in the early 90s, Mason won four Dutch championships as coach of the Trappers Tilburg. Experience in Switzerland, in the DEL and in the EBEL (ICE) He then made his breakthrough in the DEL, where he worked for 17 years (seven seasons with the Iserlohn Roosters, three with the Krefeld Pinguine, three with the Kölner Haie, one with the Adler Mannheim and one as an assistant in Augsburg). There were also two seasons in Switzerland with EV Zug. In 2014 he moved to the then EBEL, where he was in charge of the KAC for two years.
