After four defeats in a row, the HCP can laugh again: Valtonen's team won the neighborhood duel against Innsbruck 2-0. Due to the short history of this duel, it cannot be said to be a real derby, but the proximity (around 100 kilometers) cannot be ignored. The HCP is celebrating another prestigious success against the North Tyroleans after Raphael Andergassen & Co. had already prevailed in Innsbruck in mid-September.
The outstanding man in the win against the Sharks on Friday was Jakob Smith. The Puster goalie, who alternates with Andreas Bernard this year, showed an outstanding performance and led the way for the Wolves' home win with some strong saves. Another match winner is Matthias Mantinger. The Kalterer team, who presented themselves much stronger this year compared to last year, brought HC Pustertal onto the winning path in the first third.
Overall, the HCP victory was okay. As was the case two days ago in Graz, coach Valtonen had to do without Arvin Atwal, Rick Schofield, Daniel Catenacci, Simon Berger and Lukas De Lorenzo Meo. The decimated Black and Yellows impressed with a lot of commitment and discipline, especially in defense.
The highlights
Mantinger! | After an assist from Morley, Mantinger gave Puster the lead after 13 minutes. The Kalterer remains ice cold after a counterattack and a cross from the right in the middle. |
Badass Smith | The HCP goalkeeper made a brilliant save towards the end of the first third and thus prevented the equaliser. The native Canadian does the same at the end of the middle section, when he is there twice. A minute before the siren, Smith also saves the crossbar. |
Old rule | If you don't do it at the front, you'll get it at the back: The HCP increased the lead to 2-0 right at the beginning of the final third after a deflected shot from Akeson. As a result, Innsbruck can no longer react. |
But Bruneck wasn't the only place to celebrate on Friday evening: HCB Südtirol Alperia also celebrated a victory. The Foxes even won against champions Red Bull Salzburg. HC Pustertal continues with an away game in Laibach on Sunday (18.00 p.m.).
