No championship celebration for the Bulls: KAC forces game seven

The sixth game of the best-of-seven final series between Red Bull Salzburg and Klagenfurter AC took place on Tuesday evening. The Red Bulls could have won the league title at home, but they did the math without the Red Jackets.

The dream of the first championship celebration in the Volksgarten at home since 2007 finally shattered for EC Red Bull Salzburg last night. The champagne was probably already cold, the championship jerseys were ironed and the trophy was already in the stadium. But everyone had made the calculation without a very strong and ripped off Klagenfurt AC. The Red Jackets held the upper hand 4-1 on Tuesday, forcing a decisive game seven.

Many fans had made a pilgrimage to Salzburg's Volksgarten, and probably not everyone had taken their seats, when the arena became completely quiet for the first time that evening when Paul Postma gave the guests an early lead (2nd). Almost 90 seconds later, the Carinthians celebrated again: This time it was Matt Fraser who gave Salzburg goalie Atte Tolvanen the second time from close range (3rd). As a result, Salzburg threw everything forward, but failed several times due to the strong Sebastian Dahm. It wasn't until the 36th minute that the Bulls got their long-awaited goal, Ryan Murphy scoring with a blueliner.

But anyone who thought that Salzburg could rally again and turn the game around was mistaken. Instead, the Red Jackets defended very cleverly, didn't allow much, and also had - as already mentioned - a very strong Sebastian Dahm in the box. On the other side, the KAC was waiting for a counterattack, and Nick Petersen completed one of them in an exemplary manner to make it 3-1 (49th). Lukas Haudum finally made it 4-1 in the 57th minute.
