Club Championship: Athletic Club starts in Rovereto

The club championship regulations stipulate that a mandatory regional phase will be held this season. To be eligible to participate, clubs must field an athlete in at least 15 of 20 disciplines. After the regional phase, the athletes have until July 10th to improve their points. The 18 best performances will then be evaluated. Athletic Club President Bruno Telchini naturally hopes to be able to qualify once again for the “Finale Oro”, which will take place in Brescia on September 17th and 18th. The Italian vice champions from Bolzano are sending a strong and competitive team into the race in Rovereto. Some stars like Dal Molin and Tamberi, who are still injured, are not there. In the sprint races, South Tyrolean eyes are on Lorenzo Badolato from Bolzano, who will compete in the 100 m. Middle-distance runner Abdessalam Machmach is registered for the 800 m, the Bolzano half marathon specialist Khalid Jbari is running the 5000 m. Also taking part are the Passeir javelin thrower Hubert Göller and the Bolzano pole vaulter Nicolò Fusaro. The Athletic Club's new figurehead, Nick Ponzio, will also be competing in Rovereto. He is the Italian indoor and outdoor shot put champion and also came 7th at the World Indoor Championships. One can also look forward to the debut of Tunisian newcomer Mohamend Amin Jhinaoui, who will be able to compete in the 3000 obstacle and 5000 m.
