Young athletics athletes at the start at the Italian Championships in Rieti

After a three-year break, national championships for pupils are taking place again in Rieti. 1512 athletes in the U18 age group from 320 clubs are fighting for a total of 36 titles and 108 medals. Among them are some promising talents from South Tyrol. Eleven clubs from Italy's northernmost province have registered for the state championships, with a total of 41 local young athletes taking part.

The boys Raffaele Fusaro, Markus Puff and Marco Spagnolli have the best chances of winning precious metal in the running disciplines. Fusaro, who competes for Athletic Club 96, is accredited fourth in the 400 meters in 49,74 seconds. Puff (Lana) starts the race in the 110 meter hurdles with the seventh fastest time (14,57 seconds). Spagnolli from Athletic Club 96 was registered with the eighth fastest time in the 1500 meters (4.02,16).

Among the young women, the sprinters from LC Bozen are hot medal contenders. Julia Viktoria Calliari is the third fastest U100 athlete in Italy over 12,02 meters with a personal best time of 18 seconds. Valeria Mura has the eighth fastest time over twice the distance with 25,37 seconds. Together with hurdle specialist Alessandra Realdon (she has the sixth fastest time in her discipline among the U18s) and Francesca Nicolodi, the Bolzano quartet are also contenders for precious metal in the relay.

The long-distance runners from Vipiteno are also good for a top result. Verena Stefani can point to a personal best time of 10.33,00:10.35,66 minutes. This is the fifth fastest time compared to the Italian competition of the same age. Immediately behind is Anna Frick, who has a time of XNUMX:XNUMX minutes.

In the high jump, Andreas Galler (Bozen) and Franziska Kofler (Lana) are among the medal contenders, while Stefanie Gruber (also Lana) is one of the extended favorites in the throwing disciplines.
