Runners conquer the lake – Jbari and Schweigkofler top

Khalid Jbari and Andrea Schweigkofler won the second edition of the Kaltererseelauf, the second stage of the Top7 running series, on Sunday.

Khalid Jbari (Athletic Club 96 Alperia) was the fastest of the 753 athletes who took part in the Kaltererseelauf. He crossed the finish line on the town hall square in Tramin an der Weinstrasse after 47.28 minutes, just five seconds ahead of David Andersag (ASC Berg).

Behind them was Andreas Reiterer in third place (47.52 minutes/ASV Telmekom Team Südtirol). These three athletes ran as a trio for almost the entire race; it was only in the last few meters that Jbari and Andersag were able to break away from Reiterer. Jbari then had more strength left on the last climb before the finish and was therefore crowned the winner.

“The race went well for me today, the route was nice. With David Andersag and Andreas Reiterer, I broke away from the rest of the field after about a kilometer and we were together until the end,” explained Jbari at the finish. In the past, the runner born in 1989, who won the overall ranking in the Top7 running series last year, has already won the Under Armor Kalterer See half marathon, but he took part in the Kaltererseelauf for the first time. Martin Plankensteiner (Pustertal Running Club) came fourth, Lukas Gasser from SC Meran came in fifth.

Andrea Schweigkofler remains without competition

Andrea Schweigkofler from SC Meran won the women's competition. She needed a total of 57.21 minutes for the route, which went from Tramin around Lake Kaltern and back again, and was at the front for most of the race. “I really enjoyed the race and had a really good time. I organized it well, exactly how I imagined it. I am very satisfied,” said the winner after the race at the finish.

The 39-year-old from Merano beat second-placed Tanja Scrinzi (59.17 minutes/SG Eisacktal Raiffeisen ASV) by almost two minutes. The third-place finisher was also an athlete from SC Meran. Young Nike Dejanira Frick reached the finish line after just over an hour. Behind the podium were the German Julia Wieszt (ASC Ulm/Neu Ulm 2011) and Martina Rizzoli (1:01.36 hours/SG Orecchiella Garfagnana).

A running festival for everyone

In addition to the numerous participants in the main race, just over 100 athletes took part in the non-competitive “Gewürztraminerlauf”. On the 4,1 kilometer route they were able to enjoy the beautiful surrounding landscape without being stressed by the running time. In addition, numerous young runners from 2011 onwards also took part in the VSS SprintChampion, which concluded the running festival with a fitting ceremony with the award ceremony.

“A lot of motivated people took part in the main race, but also in the other two events, so we were able to set a new participant record. We are very satisfied because everything went well. I would like to thank all the volunteers, the community, our partners and sponsors, thanks to them we were able to organize a great second edition of the Kaltererseelauf,” commented OC President Patrick Olivetto from the South Tyrolean Running Club after the race. After the Kaltererseelauf, the Top7 running series is now moving to Trentino, where the Teroldego event will take place as the third stage on the Rotaliana plain on May 11th.
