Suddenly in ice hockey? Günther Steiner going astray

Günther Steiner is not only known like a sore thumb in his native South Tyrol. The Merano native is also a prominent face in North America - not least because of the Netflix series “Drive to Survive”. But suddenly some photos of Steiner at an ice hockey club appeared on social media. What's it all about?

The Canadiens de Montreal are a prestigious ice hockey club. The Canadians are one of the Original Six, the six teams that founded the NHL. The Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup 24 times. On Thursday the club posted photos of Günther Steiner. Has the South Tyrolean team boss of the Haas Formula 1 team now entered the ice hockey business?

The answer: No, of course not. But at least the South Tyrolean didn't miss the opportunity to do a “trial training” with the Canadiens. Because the Formula 1 circus is in Montreal this week (Canadian Grand Prix), Steiner took time for ice hockey. Together with hockey cracks Nick Suzuki and Kaiden Guhle, Steiner took to the ice at Center Bell, the Canadiens' stadium - as a goalie.

From Friday onwards, Steiner's focus will be on Formula 1 again. Then training begins in Montreal. After qualifying on Saturday (22 p.m. CEST), the Grand Prix will take place on Sunday. The race starts at 20 p.m. CEST.
