Bang in Formula 1: Hamilton before moving to Ferrari?

According to media reports, record world champion Lewis Hamilton (39) is allegedly about to make a sensational move from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025. This was reported by the English specialist magazine Autosport, among others, on Thursday.

A decision on Hamilton's future in Formula 1 is expected shortly. It is not yet clear whether a contract has already been signed, the magazine reported. However, the negotiations are said to be at an advanced stage and could be completed by the end of this week. Mercedes and Ferrari wanted to join forces at the request of the German press agency don't comment on it.

Just last August, Mercedes extended the contracts with the two Brits Hamilton and teammate George Russell until the end of 2025. From 2026, new engine regulations will apply in the premier class of motorsport. Since Hamilton's defeat on the last lap in the 2021 season finale, Max Verstappen has dominated Formula 1 with Red Bull. Hamilton, with the Silver Arrows since 2013, and Mercedes only drive in their shadow.

There have been repeated speculations about Hamilton's possible move to Ferrari in recent years. If the case actually occurs, Hamilton would drive alongside Monegasque Charles Leclerc from 2025, who had only signed a long-term contract at the beginning of the year. The current second Ferrari driver is Carlos Sainz from Spain.
