“I’m sorry, but that’s sport.”

Jannik Sinner lost just 15 games in the first two rounds of the US Open - and not a single one while serving on his own. So it's no wonder that he is in good spirits.

Jannik Sinner achieved something on Thursday that not many have achieved before. thanks to the clear win against Lorenzo Sonego (ATP 39) the South Tyrolean won the first ten duels against his fellow countrymen. In the long history of tennis, this was previously only Bob Hewitt (Australia), Manuel Orantes (Spain), Guillermo Vilas (Argentina) and Yannick Noah (France). He also won the 26th Grand Slam match in the last two seasons. No tennis player from Italy has ever achieved this.

“Lorenzo and I know each other well, he's a great guy and has a great team behind him,” Sinner praises his opponent: “I think today it wasn't an easy match for any of us, there was little rhythm. I served well and returned pretty well. I am satisfied with my performance. I'm sorry for Lorenzo, but this is our sport. When you play, you always try to win,” Sinner said after the match super tennis.

In his second round match, the 22-year-old showed an outstanding performance on his own serve. He only lost ten points in the entire match and didn't allow a single break chance. “We have changed the movement a little again,” revealed Sinner: “I feel better now, I have more confidence. I know my odds can be better, but I think I served intelligently today.”

Sinner also showed great improvement at the net, winning 22 out of 25 points. “It always depends on the opponent how often you reach the net. But I have to implement the things we practice in training in the matches if I want to improve.” The work is paying off, said the visibly satisfied Sinner.
