A duel of giants is looming in Flachau

The women's World Cup night slalom in Flachau once again boils down to a duel between Petra Vlhova and Mikaela Shiffrin.

Defending champion Vlhova leads record winner Shiffrin by seven hundredths of a second after the first round of the highlight in Salzburg. Third-placed Swede Anna Swenn Larsson was already 0,52 seconds behind. The decision will take place from 20.45:XNUMX p.m.

Vlhova and Shiffrin have won all six slaloms of the season so far - three by the Slovakian, three by the American. However, Shiffrin's preparation for the most valuable women's race in the World Cup, which she has won four times so far, was turbulent. The 28-year-old traveled to the hospital in Bern on Saturday to see her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who was injured in the Wengen downhill run, and only returned to Austria on Sunday evening. She skipped the speed races at the weekend in Zauchensee due to a minor illness.

Only two Azzurre were involved in the decision

The best Italian in round 1 is Martina Peterlini, who is 20th, 2,57 seconds behind. Lucrezia Lorenzi also qualified for the second run in 54th place with the high start number 27. The South Tyrolean Vera Tschurtschenthaler has now been eliminated.
