Alex Vinatzer now has two disciplines

In the slalom this winter, Alex Vinatzer often fell short of high expectations. The man from Val Gardena has discovered a second discipline this year, as he finally demonstrated on Friday in Aspen.

Alex Vinatzer is now making a strong giant slalom turn. Before this season, the South Tyrolean only finished in the points once in this discipline. Meanwhile, “Vinnie” is actually always collecting his points in the giant slalom. On Friday, the 24-year-old shattered his best result (previously 11th place). In Aspen, after a strong first run, Vinatzer gained two places in the final and ended up in 6th place.

In doing so, he equaled his best World Cup result this winter, which he achieved in the slalom last weekend. Marco Odermatt once again took victory in the Rocky Mountains. With his 36th World Cup victory, the Swiss drew level with all-time greats such as Benni Raich and Aksel Lund Svindal.

Despite a few mistakes in the second run, Odermatt came out ahead of his teammate Loic Meillard by 14 hundredths. The third, Atle Lie McGrath, lost 8 tenths to the overall World Cup winner. Thomas Tumler, who comes from Samnaun (Switzerland) not far from the South Tyrolean border, came fourth. The same applies to Luca De Aliprandini from Nonsberg. The Italian finished ahead of Vinatzer in 5th place. Another giant slalom and a slalom will take place in Aspen this weekend.
