Christof Innerhofer and Co. are eager for their first World Cup appearance

After today's women's Super-G, it will be the men's turn on Wednesday from 11 a.m. In the season so far, the roles in the speed discipline were clearly distributed. In three of the four races (Lake Louise, Val Gardena and Kitzbühel), the Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal climbed to the top podium, while the Italian Matteo Marsaglia celebrated his first World Cup victory in Beaver Creek.

In the discipline rankings, the “Azzurro” comes second behind Svindal and is therefore the number one Italian on paper. The slope in Schladming should also bring back good memories for him: at the World Cup final last year, he achieved fourth place, his best result to date. At his World Cup debut two years ago, however, he finished 15th in the Super-G.

But the four South Tyroleans also want to have a say in the decision. Above all, the Super-G winner from Garmisch 2011, Christof Innerhofer, who will take part in a World Cup for the third time. Gaiser struggled with back pain at the start of the season and was ill last week, but he doesn't let that deter him. Schladming is also a good place for him, as he was ahead at the World Cup dress rehearsal last year. And the last test before the World Cup also went well for the Puster native, in Kitzbühel he came third behind Svindal and Mayer.

Werner Heel has also had a good season so far, especially in the Super-G. The 30-year-old from Walten climbed onto the podium in Val Gardena and came fifth in Beaver Creak and Lake Louise. In fifth place, he is also the best South Tyrolean in the discipline rankings. This is Heel's fourth World Cup participation; his best Super-G result at a World Cup was eighth place two years ago in Garmisch. The man from Walten has never competed in a race in Schladming.

Peter Fill has already won two World Cup medals. The 30-year-old from Castelrotto won silver in the SuperG in Val D'Isère in 2009 and bronze in the combination in Garmisch two years ago. Now the only thing missing is gold. Fill will compete in his sixth World Championships in Schladming, but is injured after the spectacular crash in Kitzbühel. In the current season, Fill only made it into the top ten in the Super-G once, namely in the most recent race in Kitzbühel.

Siegmar Klotz for the first time at a World Ski Championships

The fourth South Tyrolean in the group, however, is Siegmar Klotz from Lana, who will make his World Cup debut on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Burggräfler's form is showing a strong upward trend, because in Kitzbühel almost ten days ago he achieved his best World Cup result ever with tenth place and jumped on the World Cup bandwagon at the last moment. Klotz has never driven in Schladming. Dominik Paris from Ultimo, on the other hand, will concentrate fully on the descent.

Last weekend the Italian speed specialists put the finishing touches on themselves in Tarvisio. On Wednesday from 11 a.m. it will be seen whether the South Tyroleans, hungry for success, can strike in the Super-G and thus cause cheers among the local winter sports fans in the first men's competition.
