First joy, then sadness: skiing hopes hit hard

Just a few days ago she became world champion among juniors, but now skiing fate has struck badly for a Swiss hope for the future.

It's nothing new that joy and suffering are closely linked in skiing. Malorie Blanc felt this in the most bitter way. It was only at the end of January that the Swiss, who is one of her country's greatest hopes for the future, experienced her career highlight to date. At the Junior World Championships, the 20-year-old won gold in the Super-G and the team combined as well as silver in the downhill.

Because of these great successes, Blanc became the focus and was presented with rewards by her trainers. She was supposed to make her World Cup debut in Crans-Montana this weekend. But that won't happen. A few days ago, Blanc seriously injured his knee during a European Cup race. The devastating diagnosis: torn cruciate ligament in his left knee. The season is over for the young Swiss woman.

From ski heaven to ski hell – within just a few days. “The B-squad athlete will undergo surgery in Valais in the near future,” wrote the Swiss Ski Association in a press release. Malorie Blanc’s World Cup debut will have to wait – at least until next year.
