Resignation: Riccardo Tonetti has had enough

“The last dance tomorrow. With the same smile as always,” Riccardo Tonetti succinctly announced his resignation on social media on Friday evening. The 33-year-old, who turns 34 in May, will compete in his last race on Saturday at the Italian Championships in La Thuile. After the giant slalom in the Aosta Valley, the all-rounder will put his skis in the corner.

Tonetti made his World Cup debut 13 years ago in Schladming. In total, the man from Bolzano made 162 appearances in the top racing series. Although he never made it onto the podium, Tonetti can boast four top-five places - all in the Alpine Combined. Tonetti had his strengths in the discipline that is now on the verge of extinction. At the World Championships in Are four years ago, Tonetti narrowly missed out on a medal in fourth place in the combination. Difficult last year One reason for his resignation was probably the difficult past season. Before the winter, Tonetti was left out of the national team.
