Shiffrin's dream trip in St. Moritz

As on the previous day, St. Moritz presented itself at its best: cloudless skies, low temperatures, perfect snow conditions. This pleased not only the fans at the finish, but above all the athletes at the start, who were faced with a great challenge on the course set by the Norwegian coach. This was particularly turning and technically very demanding because of the many transitions. This inevitably suited the all-rounders.

One of them is Michelle Gisin, who set up the first benchmark. However, the Swiss woman's best time didn't last long; she was pulverized by Mikaela Shiffrin shortly afterwards. The American showed a technically flawless, flawless ride, at the end of which it was clear: This time will be difficult to beat. It also gained value when Sofia Goggia faded away at the finish, six tenths behind. The winner from the previous day didn't take any unnecessary risks, made her turns cleanly and ended up in a good fifth place. After Goggia, compatriot Elena Curtoni pushed herself out of the starting gate. Friday's winner got close to Shiffrin, came close, but was unable to catch the American by 12 hundredths.

Although favorites like Lara Gut-Behrami were still at the start, Shiffrin's brand was no longer in danger. The Frenchwoman Romane Miradoli came closest to approaching this. The 28-year-old lost a lot of time in the upper section, but then showed her technical class and pushed Gisin off the podium. The podium was therefore secured: Shiffrin celebrated her 77th World Cup victory and thus further extended her lead in the overall World Cup. She is now 105 points ahead of Goggia before the next technical race at Semmering.

Meanwhile, South Tyrol's speed aces still have to wait for a break: Nicol Delago missed a goal in the lower section, sister Nadia remained without World Cup points and Karoline Pichler ended up in 31st place. The next speed races for the women will take place from the 12th to the 15th January in St. Anton (Austria).

Mikaela Shiffrin is a phenomenon: The American proved this once again on Sunday when she conjured up a true dream run in the snow at the Super-G in St. Moritz and thereby secured her third win of the season.
