Ski World Cup: What else is it about this year?

The Ski World Cup is entering the home straight. The 2023/24 season ends in less than a month. Some decisions have already been made, but others are still pending. It's especially exciting for the women. Here we provide an overview.

Men

Overall World Cup

Marco Odermatt grabbed the big crystal ball for the third time in a row. That's already fixed. His lead over Manuel Feller in the overall World Cup is over 900 points – impressive. Dominik Paris is currently in 7th place as the best South Tyrolean.

Departure
There's only one race left here. Odermatt is 42 points ahead of Cyprien Sarrazin. The Frenchman could return from his injury by the final in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Then it's high tension. The best South Tyrolean is Paris in third place.

Super G
Here Odermatt is 81 points ahead of Vincent Kriechmayr before the last race. So it would have to be the devil if the Swiss were to let the Super-G ball be taken away. As the best Azzurro, Gulgielmo Bosca is in 4th place, Paris is 8th.

Giant slalom
Odermatt is virtually unassailable at the top with 4 races to go - his pursuer Filip Zubcic is already 386 points behind. The best Azzurro is Alex Vinatzer in 19th place. A weak record from an Italian perspective, with Vinatzer having his best giant slalom season.

Slalom
Feller has a lead of over 200 points over his pursuer Linus Straßer. The first small ball is just a formality for the Austrian with three races remaining. Here too, the Azzurri disappointed. Tommaso Sala is in 18th place and Vinatzer is in 22nd place.

women's

Overall World Cup
Things are more exciting – almost everywhere – for women. In the fight for the big ball, Lara Gut-Behrami is 205 points ahead of the recently injured Mikaela Shiffrin. If the American returns, things could get hot again. Federica Brignone is almost 300 points behind. Not a single South Tyrolean can be found in the top 40.

Departure
There are still 2 races to complete here. Gut-Behrami leads 68 points ahead of Stephanie Venier and 72 points ahead of Cornelia Hütter. Jasmine Flury and Brignone also still have theoretical chances. Sofia Goggia, who is currently in second place, is no longer due to her injury. Nicol Delago is in 16th place.

Super G
Things are even more exciting with 2 races to go in the Super-G. Gut-Behrami has Hütter (-5 points) and Brignone (-34) breathing down his neck. The fact is: For these women there is still a lot at stake in the season finale. In the Super-G ranking, no South Tyrolean woman is in the top 40.

Giant slalom
With 2 races to go, Gut-Behrami is 135 points ahead of Brignone. The Swiss woman probably won't miss that anymore. The best South Tyrolean is Elisa Platino in 27th place. She is still fighting to take part in the World Cup final.

Slalom
Despite their injuries, Shiffrin and Vlhova are still in the lead. The American will probably win the small ball this year too. Unless Lena Dürr wins the last two slaloms and Shiffrin no longer competes. The best Azzurra is Martina Peterlini in 22nd place.
