Young athletes honored at ProWinter

In the presence of State Councilor Hans Berger, 13 South Tyrolean young talents were honored who had distinguished themselves through special achievements and merits in the past winter months.

As expected, Lisa Agerer was in the spotlight at the Alpine event. She took second place at the Junior World Championships in Crans Montana. Snowboarder Edwin Coratti, however, was honored for his bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom at the Junior World Championships in Chiesa Valmalenco.

The young biathletes received particular attention last season. Of the relay silver medalists at the Youth World Championships, only Benjamin Plaickner and Maicol Demetz were present at the awards ceremony. Alexia Runggaldier and Dorothea Wierer were missing. The latter is currently contesting its last races of the season in Kamchatka.

The season was also extremely successful for South Tyrol's artificial track luge athletes: the achievements of Ludwig Rieder, Patrick Rastner and Maria Messner were recognized with much applause at ProWinter. Dominik Filehner, who is traveling with the Carabinieri sports group, did not appear.

The season for young tobogganers on the natural track, however, was marked by successes at the home European Championships in Lasa. Alex Gruber, Lukas Brunner, Tobias Mair, Evelin Landthaler, Sarah Gruber and Alexandra Obrist were awarded for their medals.

The two trainers Arnold Moser and Othmar Tribus received a special award. While Moser has held the reins as a coach at ASV Morter for 26 years, Tribus has been working at FISI for 20 years as a coach of natural track tobogganers.

World Cup hero Christof Innerhofer won another trophy at ProWinter. Together with Federica Brignone he was presented with the "Gran Premio Pool 2011". At the same time, the Saslong in Val Gardena was named the most beautiful piste in Italy.

Young athletes honored at ProWinter

On Thursday, awards were given to numerous local athletes as part of the ProWinter winter sports and sporting goods trade fair in Bolzano.
