Some changes: The new biathlon calendar is here

The 2024/25 Biathlon World Cup is here. The international federation (IBU) recently announced the new calendar. Some changes are coming for fans and athletes.

The World Cup opener at the end of November will not take place in Östersund, Sweden, like last year, but in Kontiolahti, Finland. The traditional route continues in December with the stage in Hochfilzen. Back on the calendar is Annecy-Le Grand Bornand (France), known for its good atmosphere in the stadium and on the tracks.

In January the traditional classics take place in Oberhof, Ruhpolding and Antholz. The dress rehearsal for the 23 Olympic Games will take place next year in the Südtirol Arena from January 26rd to 2026th (Thursday to Sunday). As usual, there will be a break after Antholz before the World Cup begins. This year it will be held for the first time on Swiss soil in Lenzerheide.

After the World Cup, the World Cup continues in March in Nove Mesto, where the 2023 title fights took place. There's no going overseas this year: i.e. the stages in Canmore (Canada) and Soldier Hollow (USA) are no longer on the calendar. Instead, the Pokljkuka (Slovenia) returns. The World Cup final will then take place in Oslo.
