Roland Clara on the podium in Canmore – second!

In the skiathlon over 30 kilometers (15 km in the classic, 15 km in the free technique) Clara only had to admit defeat to the Frenchman Maurice Manificat in the finish sprint in 1:17.48,0 hours and missed out on the first World Cup victory of his career by 0,7 seconds over. Clara ran a tactically perfect race. While his opponents made several attempts to break away, the man from Puster didn't allow himself to be lured out of his reserve and ran with the field for almost the entire route. In the last few meters of the final climb, he had the necessary strength reserves to survive the sprint. The Norwegian Sjur Roethe came third in Canmore.

“Finally everything went as it should. I actually felt good physically from the start of this year, but for one reason or another I wasn't able to live up to my potential. If the climb had been maybe 20 or 30 meters longer, then I would definitely have been able to outpace Manificat. But I don't want to complain. This result is important for me, but also for the team. We train together 300 days a year. If I can do it, then they can do it too. This podium is the best way to get us in the mood for the Tour de Ski. It will be difficult because there are a lot of variables coming up. But we have shown that things can improve in the future,” said Clara in an initial reaction.

Hofer is also strong

For the 30-year-old Reischacher, it is the fifth podium in an individual race in the World Cup. For the Italian cross-country skiing team it was the first podium in 26 races. David Hofer also did a very strong race overseas. The 29-year-old from Val Gardena finished seventh and confirmed his strong form that has been going on for weeks. For him the stopwatch stopped after 1:17.50,6 hours.

The excellent team result for the “Azzurri” was rounded off by Giorgio Di Centa, who crossed the finish line in eleventh place.

Roland Clara on the podium in Canmore – second!

South Tyrol's cross-country skiers have shown a strong sign of life two weeks before the start of the Tour de Ski. After Debora Agreiter (see own report), Roland Clara also impressed in second place and David Hofer in seventh place at the skiathlon in Canmore.
