3 South Tyroleans attack the Tour de Ski

When the 18th Tour de Ski is on the program next weekend, three South Tyroleans will also be there at the start in Toblach.

The Azzurri squad for the Tour de Ski was announced on Saturday: there are 21 South Tyroleans among the 3 athletes. As expected, sprint specialist Michael Hellweger, veteran Dietmar Nöckler and former biathlete Federica Sanfilippo will be at the start in Toblach.

Nöckler in particular was recently able to recommend himself for the tour thanks to his strong performances in national and international races (SportNews reported). It is his first World Cup start this season. Sanfilippo is also taking part in the World Cup with the Tour de Ski. Michael Hellweger celebrated his season debut in the World Cup in mid-December. In the sprint in Trondheim he finished 33rd and missed the quarter-finals of the top 30.

A total of 21 Azzurri have been nominated for the tour: In addition to Hellweger, Nöckler and Sanfilippo, these are Federico Pellegrino, Francesco De Fabiani, Giacomo Gabrielli, Paolo Ventura, Davide Graz, Simone Daprà, Elia Barp, Alessandro Chiocchetti, Giandomenico Salvadori, Martino Carollo, Francesca Franchi , Caterina Ganz, Anna Comarella, Nadine Laurent, Martina Di Centa, Iris De Martin Pinter, Federica Cassol, Federica Sanfilippo and Nicole Monsorno.

To kick things off, a freestyle sprint is scheduled for Saturday in Dobbiaco. On Sunday the athletes will compete over 10 kilometers in the classic style (individual start). Finally, there will be a freestyle pursuit race on Monday. After Toblach we continue with 2 races in Davos. The final traditionally takes place in Fiemme Valley. The Tour de Ski, the prestigious stage race as part of the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, is being held for the 18th time. Since there are no World Championships or Olympic Games this season, the Tour de Ski is considered the highlight of the season.
