South Tyrol's ski crossers celebrate a successful start

The new ski cross season opens this week in Val Thorens (France). South Tyrol's representatives came out of the affair well in the first qualification on Tuesday.

The first World Cup race of the season will take place in the French winter sports resort on Thursday, for which the athletes had to qualify first. Yanick Gunsch and Dominik Zuech managed that on Tuesday.

While Gunsch got his ticket to the final without any problems in 13th place, Zuech had to tremble more in 30th place. However, his lead over 33rd place was a reassuring 34 hundredths of a second. In addition to the South Tyrolean duo, Edoardo Zorzi and Federico Tomasoni also reached the final of the best 32. Davide Cazzaniga and Simone Deromedis, however, have to watch on Thursday.

Näslund back in front

The Austrian Johannes Aujesky set the best time in qualifying, followed by Sven Liechti (Switzerland) and Melvin Tchiknavorian (France). For the women, there was no way around the dominator Sandra Näslund. The Swede relegated the Swiss Fanny Smith and Talina Gantenbein to places 2 and 3. There was no Azzurra at the start in Val Thorens. There is another qualification on Wednesday, but it applies to the race on Friday.
