In the final of the 43-year-olds: Filehner is back on the podium

The South Tyrolean snowboarders are guaranteed success. On Saturday, the local skiers in Poland showed off in a big way, especially veteran Roland Fischnelller, who celebrated a very special anniversary.

Krynica is located in southern Poland and is actually known as a recreational and health resort. But this weekend the snowboard World Cup races will take place there for the first time. The slope, that much is already clear after the first competition, suits the South Tyroleans, because two of them ended up on the podium: Roland Filehner came second in the parallel giant slalom, Daniele Bagozza third.

It's a liberation, especially for fishlers. The snowboarder from Villnöß, who is used to success, only made it into the top three once this winter when he came third in Cortina d'Ampezzo in mid-December. Now “Rolly” celebrated the 3th podium finish of his career in Poland – and it was a very special one.

Final of the “Oldies”

Fischlerler competed against the Austrian Andreas Prommegger in the final. Both snowboarders are 43 years old and are therefore the oldest to compete in the World Cup. In a thrilling run, Prommegger was ahead by just six hundredths of a second and made history with his victory: He is now the oldest Snowboard World Cup winner in history.

Daniele Bagozza also had reason to celebrate: The Val Gardena native got stuck in the semi-finals against Prommegger, but prevailed in the small final against Fabian Obmann (Austria) and secured his fifth podium place of the season. The 28-year-old is in second place in the overall standings, 2 points behind leader Benjamin Karl.

Another parallel giant slalom is on the program on Sunday.
