Emanuel Rieder is crowned Junior European Champion - UPDATE

In the absence of junior world champion Dominik Fiwickeler, who is competing in the general class title fights in Whistler, his teammate Emanuel Rieder came up trumps. As in the previous year, the 19-year-old from Meransen in Oberhof left all the competition behind him and took the second South Tyrolean Junior World Cup victory this season. Kevin Fischlerler recorded the first in Calgary. He took fifth place in Oberhof.

Behind Rieder, the German local hero Chris Eissler took second place with a considerable gap of 229 thousandths. European Championship bronze also went to Germany with Georg Reumschussel (+342 thousandths).

Rieder won another European Championship medal together with Sandra Robatscher and the Gruber/Kainzwaldner doubles in the team competition. There the quartet was named vice-junior European champions behind the Germans. The four South Tyroleans were 0,368 seconds slower than the host country. Third place went to Russia.

In the women's race, three local athletes made it into the top 10: Sandra Robatscher (fifth place), Andrea Vötter (seventh place) and Maria Messner (tenth place). Maria Schwarz, however, ended up in 15th place (18th place in the World Cup race rankings). Meanwhile, three German tobogganers, Nathalie Burkhardt, Maria Naß and Saskia Langer, were on the podium.

However, Florian Gruber and Simon Kainzwaldner were unlucky in the doubles competition. A major mistake in the first run was fatal for the duo and so they had to settle for 13th place in the end (15th place in the World Cup race). Theo Gruber took tenth place in the World Cup race in the Youth A category.
