This is the new head of defense in Val Gardena

The Hockey Club Gherdëina announced their next new signing on Thursday: The Furies are filling the third foreign position with Kevin Schulze. The American is moving from the Sheffield Steelers to Wolkenstein.

Like Anthony DeLuca Kevin Schulze comes to Val Gardena from the top British league. The 1,78 meter tall and 79 kilogram defender has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers for the last three seasons, with whom he reached the final once. In 150 games with Sheffield, the strong Schulze scored 82 points. Before his time in England, the man from Minnesota was under contract with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the DEL. The left-handed shooter spent his first year in Europe in Sweden with Västerviks IK and Leksands IF in the Swedish second division. With Leksands, Schulze achieved promotion to the top Swedish league, recording seven assists in twelve playoff games.

Schulze began his youth career at Hill-Murray School in Maplewood. He then moved to the University of Wisconsin for four seasons before joining the Wheeling Nailers in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). In his first professional season, Schulze collected 60 points. This earned him twelve appearances in the American Hockey League (AHL) in the following season.

“Schulze is a dynamic skater with a very good understanding of the game who does valuable work both offensively and defensively,” writes the HCG in a press release.
