Away coup in Bruneck: Ritten overrides the home advantage

2000 fans - including almost 150 Rittner - created a real final game atmosphere in the packed Leitner Solar Arena. They saw a game that offered few chances to score, especially in the early stages. Nervousness and toughness on both sides characterized the event. The players kept getting heated, which primarily affected the flow of the game. Both teams repeatedly tried to score goals with quick counterattacks. However, it only became really dangerous shortly before the first third siren when McCauley aimed his shot just wide of the goal.

In the middle third things go off

As poor as the derby had in the first half with scoring chances, the game developed even more excitingly after the break. Although Ritten's main focus up to this point was to keep the puck in the neutral zone, it was the “Buam” who surprisingly took the lead in the 25th minute. Gruber won the puck and passed it to Johansson, who fed Siddall to make it 1-0. However, HC Pustertal seemed unimpressed and immediately tried to counterattack. This succeeded just a few minutes later: As Tudin was stewing in the “cooler,” Sirianni pushed the puck over the line to make it 1-1. However, the tie only lasted for two minutes before Ritten took the lead again through Tudin, of all people. The visiting striker gave Aubin no chance with a hammer shot. Afterwards, an open exchange of blows developed, in which first the HCP missed the goal several times through McCauley and Scandella (post), then in the last two minutes Ritten missed the goal several times.

The wolves can't find a way

Immediately after the restart, the guests from the high plateau definitely set their course for victory. They skilfully exploited a power-number situation (Erlacher was in the penalty box) and scored for the second time through Siddall. He was served exemplary by Ramsey. This time the Pusterers were unable to react seriously and only sporadically posed a goal threat. However, this was less due to their own inability than to Rittner's extremely solid defense. It was hard to overcome that evening. Wilson's protégés mixed concrete and repeatedly launched extremely dangerous relief attacks. This was also the case in the 52nd minute, when the yellow and black defenders were in a deep sleep and didn't come close to preventing Scelfo from scoring. The hard rubber disc found its way into the Pusterer goal for the fourth time. Numerous penalties interrupted the game again and again in the final phase and meant that Ritten ultimately maintained its lead safely over time.

Pustertal now has to get through the final third as quickly as possible and find their old form in the next meeting on Tuesday in order to take back the home advantage from these Knights, who are extremely strong today.

Coach Rob Wilson's team got off to a dream start in the final for the Italian championship title and deservedly won 4-1 away at HC Pustertal. The decisive factor was the calmness of the “Buam” and their two-goal scorer Matt Siddall.
