Here's to a new one: Foxes extend with center

HCB Südtirol Alperia officially announced on Friday evening that it had extended the contract with a top performer by another year for the 2023/24 season. The Italian-Canadian is entering his fifth consecutive season in the white and red jersey.

Domenic Alberga, a native of Maple (Ontario), came to Talferstadt in the summer of 2019 after previously being under contract in the ECHL for five years and appearing 16 times in the AHL. From the start he took on an important role in the white and red team, as the position of an Italian center is in high demand.

Between the championship and the Champions Hockey League, he has made 219 appearances in the white and red jersey and scored 103 points (37+66). The past season was his best in terms of points with 34 from 67 games, including 7 goals and 27 assists. He made his debut in the Italian national team in the 2021/22 season: he was in the squad for the Olympic Games qualifying tournament and also played in six friendly matches.

The center commented on his contract extension as follows: “I'm happy to be coming back, Bolzano has been my second home for four years. I found part of my family again here and that helped me a lot, especially at first. Overall, the people here are very warm and the support is great in every way: it’s incredible how the environment has such a strong bond with this team and this club.”

The look into the future

The defeat in the final was a big disappointment for many, but Alberga doesn't want to let it bother him: “The outcome of last season was a bitter pill to swallow. We were only one step away from the final victory and we deserved it. However, this is in the past and we can no longer change it, the important thing is that we now focus on a single goal: to reach the final and win it this time. At the same time there is also the CHL, a varied and powerful championship where we can compete with the best European teams.”
