Cup thriller: Steinhaus celebrates in the penalty shootout

In the final of the cup tournament of the 2nd amateur league, Steinhaus only beat Plose on penalties in an exciting game and won the trophy.

After on Friday Algund was crowned cup winner of the 3rd amateur league, the final of the one league higher cup competition was on the program today. On Saturday evening, Plose and Steinhaus (both in Group C) met to fight for the 2nd Amateur League trophy. The game kicked off at 18.00 p.m. In the end, it was Steinhaus that lifted the trophy after a 4-3 win on penalties.

Steinhaus got serious from the start and put themselves in an excellent starting position with two early goals in the first half. First it was Viktor Zimmerhofer who made it 1-0 (16th), and then Jakob Hainz, who quickly doubled the lead just under five minutes (22nd). Plose failed to counterattack in the first half and Steinhaus went one better with Lukas Künig in the 66th minute to make it 3-0.

A courageous comeback

Only in the last twenty minutes did Plose seem to believe in a comeback. Marian Schatzer started with his 1:3 (73rd), while hopes were further boosted by Gabriel Ellemund's 2:3 just a few minutes later (79th). In the 90th minute it really happened: Again it was Schatzer who made Plose celebrate and made it 3-3 in the last second (90th).

But this impressive comeback was not rewarded. Steinhaus managed to win the title on penalties, winning the game 4-3. Steinhaus sank all penalties, while Plose failed once.
