BACK PASS | A dance at two weddings

A football game requires 22 players, two teams - and a referee. However, there has recently been a recurring shortage of the latter variety. That's why one gentleman had to complete a particularly intensive program.

Great article. In any case, the referees deserve much more praise. I was a football player for many years and have been working as a coach for quite some time. Admittedly, as a player and as a coach, I often disagreed with referee decisions and was also upset. Which of course also has to do with the fact that you're full of adrenaline during a game like this. Anyone who has ever refereed a game (even just a training game) knows that it's not that easy. You never please one team or the other anyway. Everyone makes mistakes on the field, players, coaches and even a referee. Blaming the referee afterwards is always easy and is often a distraction from one's own mistakes or from the players' poor performance. In any case, a huge compliment from me and a thank you to all the referees who officiate the games week after week.
