Paolo Zanetti before being fired from Empoli

After the disastrous 0-7 debacle against Roma on Sunday evening, Paolo Zanetti's hours at FC Empoli are probably numbered. The former successful coach of FC Südtirol is about to be thrown out.

Immediately after the game against Roma, those responsible at Empoli did not want to decide whether they would continue with Zanetti. Instead, sports director Pietro Accardi said that they would take time to reflect.

It has been clear since Monday morning that Empoli will part ways with Zanetti. The Empoli board is said to have decided this at a crisis meeting in the morning hours, as several Italian media reports. An official announcement from the club is still pending. Should Empoli continue with Zanetti despite everything, it would be a huge surprise.

Empoli has lost all four league games so far and has a goal difference of 4:0. This makes the Tuscans the only team in Serie A that neither picked up a point nor scored a goal. Empoli was also eliminated from the Coppa Italia. Zanetti's team lost 12-1 to Serie B club Cittadella. Zanetti has been employed by Empoli since June 2. He had previously coached Venezia in Serie A and was released.
