Bitter bankruptcy: FCS loses its first home game in 9 months

FC Südtirol started the fifth home game of the season without Marco Crocchianti and storm tank Caio De Ceno being out for the long term. The latter suffered a minor back injury on Friday. For the weakened guests from Salò, however, former FCS attacker Mattia Marchi was initially given preference over probably the league's most well-known player, former national player and Serie A striker Andrea Caracciolo.

The game in the Drusus Stadium started to the liking of just over 1.000 FCS fans. The home team immediately stepped on the accelerator and had their first chance to score after just one minute of play, but Hannes Fink's volley went just wide of the goal. In the 19th minute the captain tried again. After his blocked shot, Luca Parodi knocked FCS winger Alessandro Fabbri off his feet with a clumsy tackle - the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Rocco Costantino, who had already scored in the cup on Wednesday, converted the penalty to make it 1-0. It was his second goal after the winning goal on matchday one against Teramo.

With the lead behind them, FC Südtirol began to let things slide a bit. The guests from Lake Garda gathered courage and equalized shortly before the break with their first top-class chance: Fabio Scarsella headed the ball into the net after a corner. But that wasn't enough, as Feralpisalò even took the lead in stoppage time. This time it was the advanced Paolo Marchi who reacted quickest after a long ball and gave FCS goalie Daniel Offredi the disadvantage for the second time. The crazy 10 minutes after the break For FC Südtirol, disaster began immediately after the restart: the second half was less than two minutes old when Alessio Vita took heart on the edge of the penalty area and sent the ball flat into the far corner. After Feralpi's third goal, events literally came to a head, because just four minutes later the referee pointed to the spot again after an alleged handball in the visitors' penalty area - and again Costantino showed no nerves from eleven meters. Only three revolutions of the clock passed before tempers heated up again: FCS defender Nicolò Casale went down and had to be substituted with a facial injury. Meanwhile, Mattia Marchi, who played a crucial role in FC Südtirol's promotion to the third division in 2010, protested so violently that the referee sent him to the shower with a red card. At the back, the Lombards were mixing concrete and at the front they repeatedly made dangerous relief attacks, such as by former Serie B striker Andrea Ferretti, who hit the outside post in the 64th minute. Afterwards, the white and reds tried hard, but were unable to break through the opposing defensive bar. Costantino missed his best chance of a draw in stoppage time when he hit the ball against the bar. As he followed up, Fabbri pushed the ball over the line with his hand and the goal was rightly disallowed.

It was the first FCS home defeat of the season. It was only the second game with goals conceded for Paolo Zanetti's team - and like the 2:3 against Virtus Verona, there were three in total. Bitter bankruptcy: FCS loses its first home game in 9 months

Since February 10th, or rather since 13 games, FC Südtirol had not lost at the Drusus Stadium. Now, of all places, Feralpisalò, who knocked the white-reds out of the Serie C Cup on Wednesday, ended the impressive series. After a spectacular 90 minutes, the guests won 3-2.
