Hannes Fink hasn't played a football game since the end of April. The reason: a persistent Achilles tendon injury that has developed into a serious problem over time. The midfielder is now on the mend, but he cannot say how long he will be out. With SportNews Fink talked about it - but not only.

Hannes Fink about… …his injury: “The Achilles tendon problems started in April. In the game against Imolese (April 28, editor's note) The pain was then so great that the only option was to take painkillers. I took a break so I could attack in the playoffs. When I started training again, I immediately noticed that something was wrong. But the investigations revealed little. I did therapy in the summer and thought it wasn't a big problem. After 2 days of training the pain was back and I could no longer walk normally. Again, nothing precise was diagnosed. Through coach Vecchi I was able to meet Inter-Doctor Dr. Visit Corsini. He discovered that a partial tendon tear had not healed properly. The Achilles tendon thickened and everything was inflamed. Because of his diagnosis, I knew that this injury would not be dismissed quickly.”

…the way back: “I've been training for running for 15 days, and I've been training with the ball for 6 days. I can also sprint again. But when the muscles get cold, I feel pain. What is crucial is that I can train when I am warmed up. This means that the tendon is under control. I hope to be able to train with the team soon. When will I be able to work again? It can happen quickly, maybe as early as next week. But it can also take longer. Tendonitis isn’t a huge deal, but it can become a huge problem.” “It was hard for me to accept that I wouldn’t be able to play in the playoffs.” Hannes Fink about the time of the injury …the bitter time of the injury: “It was a brutal blow. I was in good shape in the spring, improved a lot and wanted to really attack in the playoffs. It was very difficult for me to accept that I couldn't play. The days when I didn't know what was going on were extremely difficult. There was friction with the medical staff. First Dr. Corsini gave me security again. I'm on the right track, but I can't do anything wrong now. I have to be smart enough not to rush things. Even if it takes maybe 10 days longer.”

…the rehabilitation phase: “A very bitter moment. But sport shows again and again that such phases are also part of it. I'm old and mature enough to handle it. I used the time off to improve in other areas. For example, I have built up a lot of strength. I just hope I get back into shape quickly.”

... the competition in the squad: “Competition is always there. I know that I can help the team and that I have many qualities. I can use my experience to help the team advance and give them more stability in tricky moments. I know exactly what I can give the team.” “Vecchi’s experience at top clubs like Inter or Venezia is noticeable.” Hannes Fink about his trainer …the differences between Vecchi and former coach Zanetti: “Both train intensively, want to press high and dominate the game with the ball. Maybe our team is better equipped for it this year; we can be very dangerous, especially in attack. They have very different characters, but always remain true to each other. You can tell that Vecchi has a lot of experience at top clubs. A big difference is the standards, which have become enormously important under Vecchi.”

…the strength of the opponents: “I am an AIC representative (Association of Italian Football Professionals, editor's note) of FC Südtirol. This means I get a lot of insight into how things are going at other clubs. It no longer happens that clubs don't pay salaries or there are problems with training. Everyone works well and very professionally. There are also many traditional clubs with a large audience. I think the championship is stronger than it was last time.”

…his potential “successors” at FCS: “I am sure: South Tyroleans can make it to the professional level. Davi has shown that he can soon be an important part of our team. I believe that he took the path that it takes to become a professional. From the FCS youth to Serie D, from there to the training camp then take advantage of the opportunity. He is very down to earth and has good skills. South Tyrol is unlikely to produce a Messi, so it's about constant development. Iacoponi and Scavone have shown how far things can go. They are good footballers, but they owe their careers to their professional attitude. Iacoponi has been playing for Parma in Serie A for the second year now – an incredible achievement. Other players with huge talent, on the other hand, went down.”
